Utilization event in Slovenia: Introducing ICT tools for Learning and Teaching (SkillgApp and BIM Technology)

On 22 October, the Slovenian partners of the Skillco project organized an utilization workshop entitled "Introducing ICT Tools for Learning and Teaching (SkillgApp and BIM Technology)" in Ljubljana. For the first time, the test version of the SkillgApp mobile application was presented to the general public: teachers of secondary construction schools, counselors of the Insitute of the Republic of Slovenia for Vocational Education and Training, as well as interested representatives of construction companies.

We started the workshop with a short relaxation game in 4 groups, with the so called "icebreaker", using QR code readers and QR codes in the colors of the Skillco project logo, which we have prepared specifically for the purpose of this workshop. Each QR code in the background hid a question related to knowledge about the Skillco project, and the participants had to find the answer themselves and write it in a Google form, which they also opened via QR code. In this way, we activated the participants with simple ICT tools, that can be used to support the teacher in the teaching process.

In the continuation of our presentation we introduced the SkillgApp mobile application as well as how the mobile application can be used in the pedagogy of the flipped classroom (pedagogical method). With individualized, digitally-supported learning outside the classroom, the teacher can also use videos from our application in combination with other ICT tools (for example EDPuzzle application) and thus, using open-ended questions, with optional-type questions,… continuously monitor and evaluate the student's progress at home.

The presentation of the new, free sectoral mobile application was followed by a lecture by Mr. Marko Kramar, an architect with many years of BIM design experience, who introduced us to BIM technology, including a 3D model of our Skillco house, through which virtual walk with the help of smartphones and VR glasses is possible. In addition, the lecturer introduced us to his projects in which he participated, explained to us concepts related to the digitization of the company, what is BIM technology, explained in more detail the differences between 2D plans, 3D models, 4D cost plans (work lists). Very interesting was the presentation of the smart building, the ECO Silver House in Ljubljana, which represents a kind of pioneering, larger national building progress and living in extremely comfortable, modern and economical apartments for eco-conscious urban people, who want high living comfort with low energy consumption, fresh and healthy air with a reduced carbon footprint, housing management through an intelligent control center and a quiet space.

In the end, the participants also took a look at the presentation of BIM projects in 2D and 3D VR and announced that they will also use the presented results and methods in practice.
